Over the past few weeks, I’ve been genuinely encouraged by the level of engagement with my posts and campaign — even from those who don’t agree with me. But I’ve also noticed that much of the conversation online is being driven by national slogans and big personalities from other parties.
So I’d like to pause for a moment and bring this conversation back to what really matters in this local election: Seaham, and the people who live here.
I’m From Seaham — And Always Will Be
I was born in Seaham. My family is still here. My brother was an apprentice down Dawdon. Another worked for the council. I spent countless summer days swimming off the pier or down at Dawdon Pit Pond. This isn’t just a place I’m standing for — it’s where my memories are, where my roots are, and where my commitment lies.
I’ve been fortunate to travel, to run businesses, and to work with people across the world — but Seaham has always been home. And now that I’m retired, I’m ready to give back, with the time, focus, and experience needed to serve the community I care about deeply.
Representation Isn’t About a Name on a Leaflet
Some parties in this election are attracting attention through national figures — well-known names who often appear on every campaign leaflet. But they’re not here. They don’t live in their constituency. They’re not knocking on doors, walking the streets, or listening to residents.
In fact, some candidates barely spend any time in the UK at all, let alone in County Durham. That’s not personal — it’s just reality. And it matters. Because being a councillor isn’t about headlines — it’s about showing up, week in and week out, to represent the people who live here.
This role is not about social media presence or political point-scoring — it’s about working with local police, councils, services, and residents to get real results. That’s what I’m here to do.
You’re Not Voting for a Party — You’re Voting for a Person
I’m standing as a Conservative candidate — and I believe in many of the values that underpin that. But I’m also very aware that many of you are considering your options and may not always vote along party lines.
That’s absolutely fine — because this election is not about national politics. It’s about electing someone who understands your town and is willing to get their hands dirty and do the work. I believe you should vote for the person who will represent your interests — not just the party badge they wear.
I’m Ready to Serve — With Real Local Focus
Here’s what I can promise: I will fight for Seaham and focus relentlessly on the issues that affect us all:
I’ve worked with politicians from all sides — at council, MP, and even Secretary of State level. I know how to get things done. But more importantly, I know Seaham, because it’s my home — and I’ve never forgotten where I came from.
