TL;DR – What This Week’s Momentum Means

  • Hundreds of surveys returned – Seaham is ready for change
  • First real chance in decades for a Conservative councillor in Seaham
  • Vote twice – you have two votes in the local election on 1st May
  • Ian is committed to cleaner streets, safer spaces, and stronger local pride
  • A vote for Ian is a vote for fresh thinking and local leadership

Over the past few weeks, my colleague Tolu and I have been out across Seaham, knocking on doors, handing out surveys, and listening carefully to what matters most to you. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has taken the time to fill in and return the forms — the response has been incredible.

We’ve now had hundreds of forms back, and the message is clear: Seaham is ready for a fresh start. While not everyone will vote Conservative — and I respect that — the level of support we’re seeing for our campaign has been truly encouraging.

For the first time in a long time, it looks like we have a real chance of delivering something Seaham has never had before: a Conservative councillor representing our town at County Hall. I’m incredibly proud to stand for Seaham — the town I was born in, and the place I’ve chosen to come back to.

How Voting Works — And Why It Matters
It’s important to understand that this isn’t a General Election. On 1st May, you’ll get two votes for your local County Council — not just one. You can vote for two candidates from the same party, or you can split your vote between parties.

But if you believe Seaham needs a stronger voice, cleaner streets, safer communities, and a town centre we can all be proud of — I’d ask you to give one of those votes to me.

Vote Ian McAndrew for Seaham. A local candidate. A local voice. A new approach.

Let’s Take Pride in Seaham Again
Seaham is a wonderful place. It’s better now in many ways than it used to be — but there’s still so much more we can do. I’ve lived and worked in countries across Europe, and one thing that always stands out is how clean, vibrant, and well-kept so many other towns and cities are.

Why shouldn’t Seaham be the same?

We need to lift our standards — and we need to lift those parking charges while we’re at it. These charges are damaging footfall and hurting our high street. I will fight to have them removed, plain and simple.

We should be proud of our streets, not frustrated by them. Areas like Church Street deserve attention, support, and proper investment to bring them back to life. That means cleaner spaces, better public areas, and a focus on supporting local businesses — not just more empty units and quick fixes.

Time to Crack Down on Anti-Social Behaviour
There’s another issue that keeps coming up again and again in your responses: crime, vandalism, and street-level disruption. And rightly so.

Too many families are feeling unsafe — whether it’s youths tearing around on dirt bikes, intimidating behaviour near public areas, or petty shoplifting and vandalism that chips away at our town’s confidence and sense of order.

This is not acceptable — and it’s not something we’re willing to tolerate.

If elected, I will work closely with Durham Police, community leaders, and local services to crack down on anti-social behaviour, restore visible policing, and make sure public spaces feel safe again for everyone. We will treat this as a top priority — not something to sweep under the rug.

Fresh Leadership, Real Action
This election is a genuine opportunity for change — and it’s a chance for Seaham to have a different kind of representation.

I’m not here to push party slogans. I’m here because I believe this town deserves more action and less talk. I’ve spent my life running businesses, managing teams, and delivering results — and that’s exactly the approach I’ll bring to the council.

If you give me your support on 1st May, I’ll give Seaham everything I’ve got.
